World of Volvo: A Scandinavian Take on Learning Through Play
From an early sketch to a rooftop driving track in the heart of Gothenburg. This is how a creative collaboration between SBI Sweden and World of Volvo turned a visionary idea into a real-world attraction — a premium driving experience where children learn about traffic safety through play. Combining Scandinavian design, innovation, and craftsmanship, the project showcases how SBI transforms concepts into unforgettable, educational experiences.
From Concept to Creation
When World of Volvo set out to expand its family offering with a brand-new Traffic School for children, they turned to SBI Sweden. A trusted long-term partner in designing and manufacturing electric mini vehicles for educational and entertainment attractions.
The collaboration between SBI Sweden and Volvo goes back several years, since 2009, when we worked together to design an attraction that replicated Volvo’s real construction machines. This partnership resulted in one of SBI’s most recognized products — the Volvo Mini Digger & Grabber — which remains part of our standard lineup today.
Our Mini Digger has been featured at World of Volvo in Gothenburg since the opening. Naturally, when World of Volvo wanted to add a driving experience for younger visitors, we were excited to be part of the journey once again.
Turning a Vision Into a Real Attraction
The process began with a simple idea from the World of Volvo team. Based on that, SBI created an initial track layout proposal to demonstrate how the available rooftop space could be used and to provide a foundation for the architects’ final design. Once the architectural plans were finalized, the real design work could begin — bringing Volvo’s iconic vehicles to life in miniature form.
Our mission was to create a safe, authentic, and premium driving experience that reflected Volvo’s brand values — innovation, design, and above all, safety.
Safety and Learning at the Core
For Volvo, safety isn’t just a brand message. It’s a legacy. From the invention of the three-point seatbelt to today’s cutting-edge driver-assistance systems, Volvo’s heritage is built around protecting people.
That philosophy became central to the new Traffic School concept. Located on the roof of World of Volvo in Gothenburg, the attraction invites children aged 6–12 to explore traffic rules and road awareness through hands-on play. Before driving, every participant joins a short safety briefing covering basic traffic behavior — such as crossing roads and following signals — before taking the wheel in one of the custom-built electric mini Volvos.
Custom-Built Electric Vehicles — Designed Exclusively for Volvo
For this project, SBI developed two brand-new vehicle models:
- Volvo FH Aero Electric Truck – an advanced evolution of the previous FH model, featuring a newly developed body, 3D-modeled directly from Volvo’s real truck design.
- Volvo EX30 Electric Car – a completely new custom miniature car model created exclusively for World of Volvo, replicating the details and proportions of Volvo’s latest compact EV.
Each vehicle was produced in the same signature colors used for the full-size models, ensuring full brand consistency and realism. Custom decals were designed by SBI’s in-house designer, and approved by Volvo’s team to meet their high visual standards.
The result: a fleet of premium electric mini vehicles, each 24 V powered and built for durability, safety, and an authentic look — all equipped with seatbelts to ensure a safe and realistic driving experience. A prefect fit in World of Volvo’s modern environment.
Expanding the Premium Line – Volvo FH Aero
Following its debut at World of Volvo, the Volvo FH Aero Electric Truck is now part of SBI Sweden’s premium product range. Introduced to the lineup during the summer of 2025, the model represents the next generation of our electric mini trucks — combining advanced design, precise detailing, and the durability required for high-traffic attractions. The Volvo FH Aero model is now available for other customers seeking to offer visitors a realistic and high-quality driving experience inspired by one of Volvo’s most iconic electric vehicles.

Building a Complete Experience
In addition to the cars and trucks, SBI delivered a complete operational setup — including traffic lights, signage, and operational accessories — enabling the World of Volvo staff to manage the attraction safely and efficiently. All vehicles are equipped with seatbelts and remote control systems that allow staff to easily stop or start them at a distance.
The concept combines education and entertainment — “edutainment” — where children learn by doing. At the end of each ride, they may receive their own Children’s Driving Licence to take home, celebrating both fun and learning.
An Instant Success
Since the opening on May 1, 2025, the Traffic School has become one of World of Volvo’s most talked-about attractions. Families have praised the concept online, describing it as both fun and educational — a unique experience where children not only get to drive real-looking Volvo miniature cars, but also learn important traffic rules in an engaging and memorable way. Many parents have highlighted how their children couldn’t wait to drive again, while others appreciated the educational value and the opportunity for their kids to earn their very first “driver’s license.”
When the SBI Sweden team attended the grand opening of the Traffic School, the response from visitors was unmistakable.
It was wonderful to see the joy on the children’s faces as they drove off in the mini Volvos. Many of them wanted to go again and again, while their parents proudly watched from the sidelines. You could really feel how much this experience meant to them, both for the kids and the parents.
Says Petter Lindh, Sales Director at SBI Sweden.
Even during delivery day, before the official opening, there was great enthusiasm with World of Volvo’s own staff happily taking the first test drives. The attraction’s combination of design authenticity, safety, and educational play has since made it an instant favorite among visitors of all ages.
